We’re excited to announce a new implant option for our patients. For the first time in over ten years, the FDA has approved the use of a new breast implant in the United States, called Motiva implants. They have a very interesting, innovative technology. The outer shell has a unique surface, that in studies have demonstrated really low rates of capsule contractors when compared to the other implants on the market, which is very exciting, particularly for someone who may in fact have a provisional surgery.
They also have a unique gel to shell interface, meaning, the way the internal material reacts with the outer shell create what’s considered a more natural appearing breast implant. While it’s a new product in the United States, they have an excellent track record worldwide. There have been over 4 million Motiva implants implanted as far both Europe and South America and the clinical results are so far, excellent.
At this point in time, Motiva only has FDA approval for use in cosmetic breast surgery. The hope is that within the next year or so, there will be an indication for reconstructive surgery.
